Work Overview

Hyper-drive is a fast paced and energetic work written for 12 saxophones, with the intention of being a strong concert opener. Its name is a play on the science fiction concept of a hyperdrive - a method of faster than light travel - and the constant driving forces that permeate much of the work. After an action-packed opening, the work reaches a moment of relief, moving through resonant and expansive harmonic sonorities. Eventually its driving forces return, building to bold sound masses across the ensemble.
