Memoir of a Snail : Original Soundtrack by Elena Kats-Chernin / Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Library shelf no. CD 3335 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
Kats-Chernin's whimsical music brings to life the journey of the film's (Memoir of a Snail) unlikely heroine, lonely misfit Grace Pudel (voiced by Sarah Snook): separated at an early age from her twin brother Gilbert (Kodi Smit-McPhee), she falls into a spiral of anxiety and angst, but inspiration and hope emerge when she strikes up an enduring friendship with an elderly eccentric woman named Pinky (Jacki Weaver), who's full of grit and lust for life.
Kats-Chernin composed the music right in the thick of it: in the film's art department itself, amongst the paint fumes and the sawdust. 'We were all spoilt,' says director Adam Elliot, 'as we listened to the bones of her score tinkled onto the ivories of her portable piano. We were immediately mesmerised: it felt so right, so rich, so beautiful.'
