Work Overview

The Varition begins with a low register ominoius-sounding rumble as the first motives of the introduction build to the grandiose and proudly stated Thame: Advance AUstralia Fair (PD McCormick). The following variations are composed and arranged by Andy Firth: The 1st Variation features octave leaps over the theme. The 2nd variation is a quaver triplet version. The third theme features rapid semi-quaver figures that outline the theme. The 4th variation, (Gallipoli), is a heartfelt and dramatic minor key rendering of the theme that represents the ANZAC's bravery, tragic loss and mateship that embodied the 1st World War. The final variation is a furioso series of smi-quaver tuplets thaty outline the theme using arpeggios. An ossia is suplied for this extremely technically demanding variation.
