Work Overview

This work is a through-composed piece written for jazz orchestra. It features pianos soloist and a number of textures and instrumental colours from the ensemble including flugehorns, muted trumpets, flutes and soprano sax. It is a ballad which begins unaccompanied by rhythm section, and then moves into an R&B feel. The work is about coming through hard times and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The composer wrote this after a particularlly emotionally turbulent time caring for a parent with serious mental illness. She has attempted to refelct a range of emotions in the work... culminating in sheer releif and joy as her Father's illness was finally beginning to improve.
