Secrets of a Trembling Passion version for Alto Flute and Piano. This is composer Margaret Brandman’s arrangement of the first song in the song cycle of six contemporary classical art songs ‘Songs of Love and Desire’ composed to lyricist/Mezzo Soprano Désirée Regina’s passionate lyrics. The work is often programmed for performance by UK based Australian flautist Mark Underwood. 

The lyrics in this passionate song in minor tonality, blended with composer’s dramatic melodic and harmonic portrayal, reflect on a lover’s internal duel between fleeing and longing. 

The vocal version of the work has been performed in concert many times by Désirée Regina together with pianist Margaret Brandman. Their recording of the song cycle ‘Songs of Love and Desire’ is released on the JazzEM music label (MMP8041). The songs have aired on international radio stations.
