Work Overview
Four Castles of Stone (Taurus song) is an adaptation for viola of the second song in Margaret Brandman's 'Cosmic Wheel of the Zodiac' Song Cycle. The lyrics ' We will build four castles of stone, to keep us safe and warm ' influenced the choice of minor tonality for the songs. The viola arrangement of this work is in the key of E minor. The melodies and harmonies chosen have a both a medieval and contemporary quality and help to convey the imagery of solid castle walls and warmth.
