Work Overview
9 Options is a work written by and for the 'Low Tone Orchestra' (aka Cat Hope) in 2022. It is for open ensemble of any number of instruments playing below middle C.
The work consists of 9 cards or slides, that are presented in a different order and rate of change for each member of the ensemble. Each slide features information on how - not what - to play. The length of the piece is variable, and can be altered by the performers just before the start of a performance, as the piece is read on networked iPads using the Decibel ScorePlayer software.
The work was written during a residency at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study, in 2022, and premiered by the Monash Animated Notation Ensemble at the Multifunktion Studio, Hamburg Hochschule for Music and Theatre in December 2022, with support from the DigiScore Project, funded by the European Research Council.
