Work Overview
Commissioned by Rachel Atkinson on behalf of the School of Music at Camberwell Grammar, Spectaculum: Spettacolo di pupazzi ("Puppet Show") is a miniature theatrical duel for cello and trombone. The two instruments become a pair of mischievous, murderous puppets, alternately conspiring with one another and plotting each other's demise. Brief, biting and deliberately over-the-top, the work revels in exaggerated gestures, dark humour and theatricality, inviting both performers and audience to enjoy its wicked sense of fun.
