Trouble the Water was written whilst in residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, USA in 2006, whilst arranging spirituals for the late great Blue Note jazz musician Sam Rivers. Each morning of the residency I walked along the beach and observed the ocean. The music expresses the restless waters, and often turbulent conditions off the coast of Florida.
