Event Details

Join us at Wollongong Art Gallery as we celebrate 10 years of Steel City Strings, with a concert dedicated to what ‘HOME’ means to us. The word ‘home’ conjures up sensations such as familiarity, security and comfort. Such notions go to the core of our identity and our need to belong.

Hear two new commissions by Australian composers, funded by local supporters

+ Adriel Sukumar’s ‘Visions of Home’
+ Barry Conyngham’s ‘Under the Escarpment’

together with

+ ‘The Carnival of the Insects’ by Andrew Ford (and narrated by him at the concert)
+ ‘Cinque Forme d’Amore’ by Elena Kats-Chernin, one of Australia’s most beloved and recognisable composers, and two beloved pillars of the string repertoire:

+ Anton Dvořák’s evocative ‘Nocturne in B minor ‘and
+ Felix Mendelssohn’s youthful yet radiant ‘String Symphony No. 10’.

Let the glorious music welcome you ‘HOME’ as it carries you through this enchanting program, conducted by highly-respected conductor, Dr Joanna Drimatis  who is known as a champion of Australian music, contemporary classical music and emerging musical voices.
