Aidan Charles Rosa : Associate Artist

Aidan Charles Rosa is a Sydney-based composer whose work draws together contemporary classical practice, the culturally rich sounds of Iberia, and a wide spectrum of popular influences. His music is characterised by a sustained engagement with ancient philosophical and mystical traditions, which he re-contextualises within dynamic, modern musical forms. Rosa's musical language balances stylistic plurality with structural clarity, and frequently draws upon both the lively rhythms and yearning "saudade" sound of the Mediterranean. These influences inform a body of work that seeks not only stylistic synthesis, but also the soulful expression of the mystical experience spoken through sound.

Rosa's music has been performed by the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, the Ryde Hunters Hill Symphony Orchestra, the Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the Australian post-minimalist ensemble Spiral; and has also been featured in the Young Composer Competition held by the Asian Composers League (2022, New Zealand), the ABC Young Performers Awards (2022, Sydney), and the 7th International Young Composers Academy (2017, Chaykovsky and Moscow).

Rosa completed a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours, receiving the Horace Keats Award for Composition, and subsequently, a Master of Music. He is currently undertaking a Doctor of Musical Arts at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where his research and creative practice continue to explore the relationship between Western esoteric thought and contemporary musical practice.
