He received the 2019 ArtsSA Fellowship to undertake musical residencies with ensembles in Ireland, the UK, and Japan. His international profile also includes Australian representative at Gamelan Tradition and Creation, Osaka University, (2025), Australian representative at Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival (2016, 2017), Australian representative at Gamelan Composers Symposium, SOAS, University of London, and ISCM World Music Days (2014), performances at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank London (2013), and composer residencies at Osaka City University and Osaka University (2008).
In 2025, David was awarded the 2025 Adelaide Chamber Music Composer Commission. The subsequent work, sometimes, for Baroque string trio and guzgeng was premiered at the MOD Museum of Discovery, Adelaide, in November, that year.
David received commissions for five OzAsia Festivals (2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2018). The 2018 production, Patina, featured music for gamelan ensemble and shakuhachi, calligrapher and visual artist Juno Oka, and choreographers Ade Suharto and Shin Sakuma, was shortlisted for the 2018 Adelaide Critics Circle Award for Innovation.
David was a co-director of Adelaide's Firm New Music from 1998 to 2005, and co-artistic director of the 2012 earin festival, that presented 8 world-premiere and 12 Adelaide-premiere performances in three concerts which were broadcast by ABC online and ABC FM.
His 2023 composer residency at ABC Collinswood produced original content for ABC online, ABCTV, and ABC FM Classic Breakfast and Sonic Philes.
De La Catessen Records released two discs of David's chamber music, Empyrean Traces, an album of Piano Trios performed by Benaud Trio, and Final Fragments - Music for piano performed by Stephen Whittington. The USA lable OgreOgress Productions has also recorded and released his work.
