Dominic Flynn is an Australian composer.
Born in Nipaluna/Hobart in 1997, Dominic grew up playing the drums in local bands before shifting focus to composition. He has studied in Australia with several composers and in the United Kingdom with Michael Finnissy.
Dominic's music has been commissioned and performed both at home in Australia and overseas in Canada, Japan, Italy, Germany, and England. He has collaborated with ensembles such as Decibel New Music Ensemble, Labyrinth Ensemble, Cedar Collective, and Ensemble Mania, and soloists such as Jan Gerdes, Reiko Manabe, Rob Hao, Antony Gray, Eliza Shephard, Lore Amenabar Larrañaga, Judith Dodsworth, Leigh Harrold, and Michael Kieran Harvey. Pieces of his have been selected for the official Australian submission to the ISCM Festival, and have featured in the inaugural ANAM Set, the Ossa Music Prize winning concert, the Art Music Award-nominated Two Minutes from Home project, and the Mona Foma and Tempo Queer festivals. He is a represented artist with the Australian Music Centre.
More recently, Dominic was awarded the Continuo Circle Commission, took part in Cultivate's La Baldi Residency in Montegiovi, Italy, and presented at the 25th International "Principles of Music Composing" Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania. Upcoming projects include commissions supported by the APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, and Creative Australia, alongside collaborations with Homophonic!, Ensemble Mania, and Foundation IHOS Amsterdam, and performances in Australia, England, and the Netherlands.
